Logitech has announced the first Full HD webcam for Skype users, promising to offer 1080p video for when you fancy seeing granny in glorious high-def.

The Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920 captures full-HD 1080p video for connecting with friends using Skype or in HD 720p for Windows Live Messenger.

Logitech is hoping that business users, as well as "far flung family members", will be interested in seeing each other crystal clear regardless of where they are, even if it means they have to start cleaning their house a little bit more.

The Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920, which is a follow on from the Logitech HD Pro Webcam C910, also features Carl Zeiss optics and a premium 20-step autofocus, Logitech’s smoothest, most responsive autofocus yet, says the company. The webcam has two mics positioned on either side of the webcam to capture natural stereo audio.

With the help of software, users will be able to upload Full HD 1080p video clips or 15-megapixel photos to Facebook, Twitter or YouTube with one click.

Users will have to make sure they upgrade to Skype 5.7 Beta for Windows to enjoy the benefits of Full HD video conferencing. That means Mac users will be out of luck.

The Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920 is expected to be available in the US and Europe beginning in January 2012 for a suggested retail price of £89.99.
