Apple’s MacBook Air is pretty portable thanks to its relatively light-weight and thin design, but unfortunately that design came with a price – limited USB ports and lack of an optical drive which some might argue is not necessary. Well if you’re looking for portability but want more USB ports and an optical drive, Apricorn has launched the Aegis NetDock Mac Edition.

The Aegis NetDock is essentially a 3-in-1 USB docking station. It will feature four USB ports, a dual layer DVD burner and a high capacity hard drive (up to 1TB), all of which can be connected to your MacBook via a single USB cable, therefore essentially giving your MacBook Air up to five USB ports to work with.

The basic Aegis NetDock comes in three options, the first without a hard drive and will retail for $69. The second option with a 500GB hard drive will retail for $199 while the 1TB version will set you back $229, with both the 500GB and 1TB options compatible with Apple’s Time Machine feature.

The good news is that if you were to run out of hard drive space, the enclosure of the NetDock can be removed via a single screw thus allowing you to replace the hard drive with a standard 2.5” SATA hard drive of your own.
