Toshiba Qosmio X870 3D Gaming Laptop Specifications and Pictures
Toshiba updates its long running Qosmio entertainment laptop range with the X870.
Toshiba's Qosmio laptops have always focussed on entertainment and multimedia functionality, and the X870 raises the bar in both areas. If you've been looking for a desktop replacement machine that can satisfy all your gaming and media needs, your search could well be over.
The Qosmio X870 sports a 17.3in, LED backlit screen with a Full HD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080. You can make the most of that Full HD screen by speccing an optional Blu-ray drive, turning the X870 into an HD movie player.
Your entertainment won't be limited to HD movies either, since the X870 can also provide you with 3D thrills. Thanks to the next-generation (unspecified) Nvidia graphics processor, the X870 supports Nvidia's 3D Vision technology, and ships with a pair of active-shutter 3D glasses.
You shouldn't be disappointed in the sound either, thanks to a four-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, complete with SRS Premium Sound 3D processing. Of course if you'd rather pump a movie to your big-screen TV and surround sound system, that's no problem either - just hook the Qosmio up using an HDMI cable.
Toshiba indicated that the Qosmio will ship with the "latest Intel processors". Given that the X870 will be available in Q2 2012, that should mean that there will be an Ivy Bridge chip in the driving seat. There will also be a "generous RAM capacity" although the exact memory complement wasn't confirmed. Toshiba did confirm that the X870 will be available with up to 2TB of hard disk space, which should be more than enough, even for the most capacity hungry user.
There's an impressive four USB 3.0 ports on offer, two of which are sleep and charge compatible. You can also make use of the Qosmio's internal speakers when the notebook is shutdown, thanks to the Sleep-and-Music feature.
The Qosmio X870 certainly looks the part too, finished in dark, brushed aluminium with contrasting red trim. There's also a red backlight to the keyboard, along with a red illuminated Toshiba logo in the lid.
The Qosmio definitely looks like it could be a great all-round multimedia and gaming solution, but as always, the proof of the pudding is in the eating, so watch this space for a full review soon.
