Following the February launch of the Pentax K-01 and the Optio WG-2, Pentax has announced that both cameras are now available for purchase. The Marc Newson-designed K-01 is the Pentax response to Sony’s popular NEX-series of Alpha mirrorless cameras and boasts similar specs. Like the NEX cameras, the K-01 uses a DSLR APS-C CMOS sensor, in this instance with 16-megapixels.

However, while Sony’s NEX cameras use a new E-mount configuration requiring E-mount compatible lenses, the Pentax K-01 will work with existing K-mount lenses. Sony does, however, offer an adapter for existing Alpha DSLR lenses. The K-01 comes in three colors including black, white and yellow and is retailing for $750 (body only) and $900 (with a new DA 40mm XS lens).

The rugged Optio WG-2 will come in two models, including one with built-in GPS capability (WG-2 GPS). In addition to utilizing a 16-megapixel sensor that can shoot video in 1080p at 30fps, the camera also incorporates a ‘microscope’ mode. Using a ring of six LEDs, the camera can take shots from as close as 1cm from the lens. The WG-2 is shipping now for $350 while the WG-2 GPS will set you back an additional $50.
