Optoma has launched a high-definition home cinema projector that supports both Full HD (1920x1080p) resolution and can play video at 24 frames per second.

Justin Halls, head of product management at Optoma Europe explained that “Most movies are shot at 24 frames per second. To preserve the purity of the original image the HD23 can accept high definition sources at 24 frames per second and so display source material just as intended.”

The HD23 can produce images up to 5 metres across and has a brightness rating of 2500 Ansi lumens and a contrast ratio of 5000:1. This means you don’t need to have a fully blacked out room in order to view the onscreen action properly. Optoma covers the colour and image not to degrade during the first five years of ownership.

Optoma promises whisper-quiet operation from the DLP projector, which has a pair of HDMI inputs for hooking up to a Blu-ray player or games console and consumes less than a Watt of power in standby mode.

Measuring 324x234x97mm and weighing 2.9kg, the Optoma HD23 has a projection distance of between 1.5m and 12.5m.

The HD23 replaces the existing HD20 projector. Pricing for the new model has not been announced.
