If you’re looking for a quad-core tablet but don’t want to shell out the money for the ASUS Transformer Prime, you’re in luck as ASUS has announced the Transformer Pad 300 series, a more affordable quad-core tablet with a price tag of $399, a good $100-$200 cheaper than the ASUS Transformer Prime.

One of the ways that the Transformer Pad 300 managed to keep the costs down would be its build material, lower clock speed, smaller storage, and a slight drop in quality in terms of its display. For those unfamiliar, the Transformer Prime sports an aluminum body, but the Transformer Pad 300 has opted for a plastic build instead which will be available in red, white and navy.

It will feature a 10.1” 1280×800 display, similar to that of the Transformer Prime, but instead of Super IPS+, the Transformer Pad 300 will only use a standard IPS display, and will also see its storage capacity reduced to 16GB. The good news is that ASUS has not skimped out on the software and will be shipping the ASUS Transformer Pad 300 with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich preinstalled. No word on availability just yet, but check back with us at a later date for more info.
