During a press conference at CES 2012 today, LG unveiled the Spectrum, its latest 4G LTE smartphone for Verizon Wireless. The Spectrum is very similar to the Nitro HD previously released for AT&T, as it features a dual-core processor and a 4.5-inch, 720p resolution display.

The main attraction with the Spectrum, like the Nitro HD and Optimus LTE, is the 4.5-inch 1280 x 720 pixel HD IPS display that offers a pixel density of 329 points per inch. The phone is also powered by an equally-impressive 1.5GHz dual-core processor with 1GB of RAM. The Spectrum comes with 4GB of internal storage and a 16GB microSD card pre-installed. An 8 megapixel camera on the back features autofocus, LED flash, and 1080p video capture. There is also a 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera for video chats.

LG is including a massive 1,830mAh battery with the Spectrum, and buyers can also purchase a even more enormous 3,000mAh extended unit if they need more power. The Spectrum supports Bluetooth 3.0 and measures 135.4mm x 68.8mm x 10.4mm (5.33in x 2.71in x .41in) while weighing 141.5g (4.99oz).

The LG Spectrum runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread with LG's custom user interface. LG says that the smartphone will be upgradeable to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, but it did not provide a timeline for when the update will be made available. Verizon Wireless is offering exclusive HD content for the Spectrum, including HD sports through the ESPN ScoreCenter app that is pre-loaded on the phone.

Verizon Wireless will launch the LG Spectrum online and in stores on January 19, 2012 for $199.99 with a new two-year commitment.
