Sony Walkman NWZ-B170 MP3 Player Pictures

Last year we looked at the NWZ-B162 Walkman from Sony which was an ultra-portable MP3 player with quick charging and low price being the stand out points. Now Sony is back with the B170 which promises all the benefits of the B162 but with added Bass Boost.

The clip-on Walkman again comes in a range of colours (red, black or blue) and weighs just 28g. However despite its small size, Sony says that pressing the dedicated Bass Boost button will blow you away with “rich, pumping low-end sound.” Indeed.

And if that wasn’t enough, a colour-match LED pulses in time with your music – so you won’t even have to go to a club for that disco experience every weekend.

The B170 keeps the quick charging feature of its older sibling and a three minute charge will reward you with 90 minutes of playback. Fully charged, the B170 promises 18 hours of playback – though that is with the power save mode on, LED turned off, equaliser/bass not in use and playback limited to MP3 128kbps.

As with the B162, transferring files is a case of drag and drop via the USB port, however, Mac OS users out there be warned it’s not compatible with Apple’s software – then again if you’re a Mac OS user you’re likely to have an iPod anyway.

Zappin technology and a Zap dedicated physical button is also included which lets you search through your music collection giving you a small preview of each song. Press the Zap button again to hear the whole song.

The new Walkman B170 Series will be available in the UK in 2GB or 4GB capacities from mid-February with pricing set at around £30 (2GB) and £35 (4GB).
