Acer And Lenovo Windows 8 Tablets Specifications and Pictures
First-tier PC vendors Acer and Lenovo are set to launch table PCs based on Microsoft's Windows 8 and Intel's Clover Trail platform in the third quarter of 2012, according to sources from the upstream supply chain.
Intel is set to unveil its Medfield processor, designed specifically for Android-based smartphones and tablet PCs, in the first half of 2012. But as Medfield is eclipsed by ARM-based processors in terms of performance and power saving, PC players are putting more hope on Intel's Clover Trail platform, the sources said.
The sources believe Wintel-based tablet PCs will have strong potential in the enterprise market where users still have demand for Microsoft-developed applications that they are familiar with.
Shipments of iPad accounted for 60% of the tablet PC market in 2011 and with an expected 50% on-year shipment growth, Apple is expected to maintain its share at around 60% in 2012.
