Earlier this year, Sony announced that it will revive its flagship Walkman brand with an Android-based personal media player called the NW-Z1000. Today, the device made its first appearance on the FCC, ready to go head-to-head with the iPod Touch.

At first glance, the NW-Z1000 looks like a mobile phone, but FCC test reports confirm that the device’s wireless capabilities are limited to Bluetooth and WiFi. The NW-Z1000 will feature a 4.3-inch WVGA (800×480) touch screen, NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor, 512MB of RAM and Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

The NW-Z1000 has already launched in Japan, but today’s FCC filing suggests that the device may be making its way to the States soon. The device is available in 16, 32 and 64GB versions priced between $365 and $561 (converted from Yen) – hopefully US pricing will be a bit more reasonable.
