Toys R Us Releases Nabi Android Tablet For Kids Pictures

Chinese/American Web 2.0 properties and app developer FUHU has teamed up with Toys R Us to offer a tablet designed specifically with young children in mind. The seven-inch Nabi offers a "kiddified" user interface for web browsing, watching movies and TV shows, reading books, learning, and game playing. Mothers can key in a password and use the device as a fully functional Android tablet.

Nabi includes a pre-loaded Design Studio portal with 30 apps for drawing and painting. It also comes with 30 pre-loaded children's e-books. For learning, the tablet features access to Fooz Kids University, a site with over 22,000 state standardized math skills covering pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. Up to 500 child-oriented apps and games can be found online at a custom Nabi App Store.

Although targeting kids, the device is not a toy. The Nabi carries an 800x480 resolution, a 533MHz but modern ARM Cortex-A9 dual-core processor, and an embedded PowerVR SGX530 graphics core to give it 3D gaming. It also sports Wi-Fi, a front-facing 1.3 megapixel camera, and 1080p video playback. Built0in storage is 4GB. A 3,000mAH rechargeable lithium-polymer battery is relatively short-lived at up to five hours of continuous use.

The Nabi is available now at Toys R Us for pre-order and a November 22 delivery. The tablet is priced at $199.
