Samsung Series 5 Chromebook (Black) Specifications and Pictures
Samsung has dropped the price of its Web-based Chromebook from $429 to $349 and released a piano black version of its Web-based Chromebook, in case the original "Arctic White" lid didn't quite gel with your style.
If you happen to live in the New York City area, potential buyers will be able to test drive the Series 5 Chromebook at the Samsung Experience center located at Columbus Circle, and even borrow one for up to seven days. However, if you're unable to visit Manhattan, we have the original review to help you finalize your buying decision.
The Samsung Series 5 Chromebook is a 12.1-inch widescreen (1,280-by-800 resolution) notebook that features an Intel Atom N570 processor, usually found in netbooks. Its chassis is fairly thin, only 0.79-inches thick, and weighs a light 3.2 pounds. The Chromebook isn't what you would call a "full laptop," its operating system is based off of Google's Chrome browser. You login with your Gmail information, so you have access to Docs, Calendar, and all your Google account basics. Apps are available from Google's Web Store, like TweetDeck, Angry Birds, and so on to help fill any software and utility needs. The 16GB SSD is small, but you are expected to save everything to the cloud (Internet connection permitting).
Battery life lasts a little over six hours from our original testing. The Series 5 Chromebook comes equipped with a media card reader (SD, SDHC, MMC) and two USB 2.0 ports that double as charging docks for your smartphone or MP3 player while the notebook is plugged in. There's also a Webcam located above the display. The Chromebook doesn't come with an Ethernet jack, so you'll have to rely on your Wi-Fi connection in order to go online.
