PNY HP v112b Tiny USB Flash Drives Specifications and Pictures
PNY decided it was time for a flash drive that stood apart from most of its cohort, at least from the perspective of design.
PNY did not actually try to go outside the realms of expectations in terms of performance when it built the HP v112b.
Instead, it decided to offer an item that can potentially captivate owners through looks while not featuring too much cost-increasing albeit unnecessary prowess.
Granted, the lack of support for SuperSpeed USB 3.0 transfer rates might turn the 32 GB model into a bit of a chore to fill.
Still, 18 MB/s when reading and 8 MB/s when writing is not actually too slow a data throughput, so the likelihood of waiting becoming boring ultimately depends on how patient or in a hurry consumers are.
That said, as is the case with pretty much every flash-based storage device out there, the read and write speeds, the maximum ones that is, decrease the less capacious a unit is.
In other words, the 2 GB, 4 GB and 8 GB all have lesser rates (14 /4 MB/s read/write) than the 16 GB and 32 GB ones (these two are on the same level, apparently).
We mentioned aesthetics being their main unique feature: the case has a wavy design and is colored sapphire blue, with some translucence thrown in for good measure.
That goes for both the drive and its cap and, as an extra advantage, the flash sticks are waterproof as well.
Mechanical shocks should also have little to no effect on them and, due to the COB 9chip-on-board_ packaging technology, they are actually quite tiny too.
Finally, the far end has a lanyard, for tying it to a keychain, belt or other accessory, since no one would want the size to work against them and render the HP v112b easily lost.
People buying this thing will get a warranty of 2 years and only need to own a computer running Windows 2000, XP, Vista and 7 or Mac OS 10.3 to make it work.
