Panasonic introduces the Lumix DMC-GX1, a new Micro Four Thirds camera. With a 16 megapixel sensor, 1080 HD video and a newly designed grip it's designed to please the enthusiast set as something of a follow-up to the GF1. Read on for all of the details.

On the GX1's back panel you'll find a 3.0-inch touch display with 460k dots of resolution. Familiar touch-friendly functions like Touch Shutter are available in the GX1. The stylish new grip is complemented by a number of customizable controls as well as a hot shoe and built-in flash.

Full 1080 HD video recording at 60i is possible, and files are saved in AVCHD format. Reduced 720 and VGA resolutions are also available in video mode. Burst shooting is available at 4.2 fps, recording an unlimited number of JPEG frames in a burst set. Maximum shutter speed is 1/4000 second.

The GX1 will shoot at ISOs as high as 12800 - a step above the GF3's 6400 maximum ISO setting. New Lumix X power zoom lenses are compatible with the GX1. The touch display can be used to operate power zoom lenses when they are attached. Per usual the GX1 includes Panasonic's dust reduction system to help remove unwanted particles from the image sensor.

The Lumix GX1 will be available in December in black or silver. A kit with Lumix G X 14-42mm lens will cost $949.99. Bundled with a standard 14-42mm zoom it will cost $799.99 and body-only the GX1 will cost $699.99.
