Toshiba Regza Blu-ray DBR-M190 PVR Specifications and Pictures
It may not be coming to the UK, or indeed anywhere other than its native Japan, but the Toshiba Regza Blu-ray DBR-M190 is worth a mention for the simple fact that it packs a staggering 5TB of hard drive space.
The company is stating that this is enough (the 4TB assigned to it is, at least) to simultaneously record up to six digital channels for 15 days, on a low quality basis.
Also acting as a home server, the DBR0M190 is an integral part of Toshiba's Regza home connected system; it is capable of streaming content to other devices throughout the home, allowing users to pause their content and carry on watching it on another device.
Masaaki Osumi, head of Toshiba's digital products division, stated that we're unlikely to see the big storage media server in this country, but hinted that TVs packing the new Regza Link Share IPTV setup could be on their way to Europe.
"It's a bit hard to imagine this Regza server as being sold globally," he said. "But on a regional basis, there is a natural need for TVs that have server functionality. So in Europe or some parts of China, we want to create TVs that can act as servers."
The Toshiba Regza Blu-ray DBR-M190 will hit the Japanese market this year, priced at ¥200,000, which is around £1,700.
